Hi, I'm Albert

After growing frustrated with American sports, I told a long-suffering Everton fan friend that I wanted to fall in love with the beautiful game (why not jump into the waiting arms of FIFA?). He and his lovely wife thoughtfully gifted me the book This Love is Not for Cowards by Robert Andrew Powell for my next birthday. Melding my love of the culture of my cross-border hometown(s) of El Paso and Juarez with the poetic downfall of the top-flight Mexican soccer team during a time when the city's violence rivaled Baghdad, I was hooked.

While the Indios, the team at the center of Powell's book, had folded, regional sports powerhouse MountainStar Sports Group, which also owns El Paso's AAA Chihuahuas and USL Championship Locomotive, rekindled the fire for soccer in Juarez in partnership with others to establish FC Juarez in 2015.

According to the most recent survey, Juarez remains the least-followed franchise in Liga MX, eclipsed by established franchises like America, Pumas, Chivas, Cruz Azul, and Tigres. However, the existing fan base is deeply committed to not just the team, but the community it represents.

I don't know exactly where this site will go, but I'm excited to improve my Spanish and follow the team over the coming years.

Vamos Bravos!
